John Hughes

PGA, Head Golf Professional

Before coming to Woodbridge Golf & Country Club in late 2017, John was Head Professional/Director of Golf at several quality golf facilities.  He’s overseen golf operations at them all, and spent 17 years at the 36-hole Castlewood Country Club in Pleasanton, CA.  He brings a wealth of experience to Woodbridge, and knows that member service is of the highest priority at a private club.

Providing the best golf experience possible has been one of his goals everywhere he has been employed.  He has assembled and worked with a number of strong golf staff over the years.  He believes supporting staff and encouraging them to move forward in the golf business pays dividends to the club and the individual.  It creates a positive working environment, which shows in the quality of member services provided.

In college, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from San Diego State University, where he played Division I collegiate golf.  After college he played in many professional events, mini-tour, 2nd PGA Tour (now Korn Ferry) and regular PGA Tour events.  He has continued his education with PGA of America seminars, workshops and schools, which have all contributed to career advancement.

His affiliations and awards have included:  Northern California PGA Section President, Vice President, and Secretary; Junior Golf Committee Chair; JTNC Junior Tour Board of Directors;  NCPGA Private Club Merchandiser of the Year; Golf Professional of the Year Southern California PGA Section Northern Chapter.  He has recently been elected again to the NCPGA Board of Directors.

John took up golf at a young age while growing up in Santa Barbara, CA.  Although he misses his home town, he prefers living in Northern California.  When he’s not at the club, he’ll be either playing golf or at home with his beloved wife, Pamela, who also plays a little golf when she’s not teaching high school math.  His two children are Tanner and Kellie, both DI collegiate athletes, in golf and volleyball, respectively.
