A Tradition Unlike Any Other: How Woodbridge Honors Golf’s Greatest Night
Each April, as azaleas bloom and anticipation builds at Augusta National, golf fans around the world tune in to watch the Masters. But before a single tee shot is struck, a quieter, more exclusive tradition takes place—one that celebrates excellence, camaraderie, and history. It’s called the Champions Dinner, and this year, Woodbridge Golf & Country Club is honoring that storied tradition in its own signature way.
What Is the Champions Dinner?
Known formally as the “Masters Club,” the Champions Dinner began in 1952 when golf legend Ben Hogan invited all past Masters winners to dine together the night before the tournament. His intention was simple but meaningful: to create a fellowship of champions—a club within the club. Even the tournament’s co-founder, Clifford Roberts, was formally invited and required to wear his green jacket.
Since that inaugural gathering, the dinner has become a cherished tradition of Masters Week. Each year, legends of the game put competition aside to share stories, meals, and memories. Attendees don their Green Jackets, and the reigning champion selects the menu—often highlighting their cultural background or favorite dishes.
From Dustin Johnson’s Southern-inspired feast in 2021 to Tiger Woods’ mix of cheeseburgers and sushi, the menus are as diverse and memorable as the players themselves. It’s not just a meal—it’s storytelling through food.
Bringing the Tradition Home to Woodbridge
Here at Woodbridge Golf & Country Club, tradition and community are central to everything we do. That’s why we’re excited to bring the spirit of the Champions Dinner to our own members with an annual Masters Dinner celebration.
While Augusta has its Green Jackets, Woodbridge boasts its own proud history, strong community, and a shared love for the game. On Tuesday, April 8, our Club will echo the charm and exclusivity of Augusta’s hallowed halls—complete with a specially curated 2025 Masters Dinner menu, reminiscent of the original event.
While this event is reserved for Club members, it reflects the kind of rich experience and camaraderie that defines life at Woodbridge Golf & Country Club.
